Business Intelligence: Data Management

Software Magazine, Spring, 2002

Software AG's Tamino XML Server Version 2.3 is a native XML database designed to store and process XML data without having to convert it to other formats and store it in relational tables first. Tamino facilitates the transmission, storage, and retrieval of data, structured or unstructured.

The new release features a restructured internal storage and indexing mechanism and added optimizing logic. Software AG has added some proprietary compression algorithms and logic that by default automatically compress documents over 64K, but is user controllable.

Tamino 2.3 runs on Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional, Server and Advanced Server; Sun Solaris, and OS/390. Four of the largest Web application server providers (IBM, BEA, HP, and iPlanet) use Tamino as their default XML server, according to the company.

Pricing for Tamino 2.3 is $25,000 per CPU for all Windows platforms and $40,000 per CPU for all Unix platforms.
