[0] APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT: Testing

Software Magazine, April, 2001

Mercury Interactive Corp. released version 7 of LoadRunner, its load testing solution, and WinRunner, its functional and regression testing solution.

Based on the Topaz technology, Mercury Interactive's application performance management solution, the company has added a Web Transaction Breakdown Monitor to LoadRunner 7.0. LoadRunner can now break down end-to-end transaction response times for the client, network, and server, and provide the capability to drilldown to the exact page component that may be causing performance slowdowns. In addition, LoadRunner users can easily create scripts to test EJB components early in the development cycle. Also new is the Data Wizard, for the quick creation of data-driven test scripts. And, the new AutoLoad function provides goal-oriented testing capabilities to build load scenarios based on user-specified business requirements.

WinRunner 7.0 provides a single solution for testing the functionality of the full range of enterprise and Web applications, as well as wireless or mobile Web applications. For example, WinRunner's enhanced database verification capability allows users to simply compare information presented by an application with information in the database. WinRunner 7.0 also provides support for the latest Java toolkits, including Sitraka, Java Developer Kit (JDK), and Visual Cafe.

Pricing for LoadRunner 7.0 starts at $40,000 for a license of 50 virtual users; WinRunner is priced at $4,995 per seat. Both are available for the following platforms: Windows NT, Windows 2000, Sun Solaris, HP-UX, IBM AIX, and Linux.
