The NFuse Elite access portal server from Citrix Systems in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., provides a framework that attempts to deliver an "out-of-the-box" access portal. The product leverages NFuse Classic, which has been on the market for two years but required the Citrix MetaFrame technology that enables virtual access to information on a variety of portals. NFuse Elite breaks the tie to MetaFrame and installs centrally, then allows access to portal content from a Web browser on any supported device.

The installation of NFuse Elite is wizard-driven. The user is asked to accept a default portal to use the product immediately. Administrators can import Microsoft Windows NT and Active Directory groups to populate NFuse Elite roles, eliminating the need to re-enter users or groups. The product supports authentication on Windows NT and Active Directory Groups. Administrators can choose between Microsoft SQL 2000 and MSDE as a back-end database. If a company has a Citrix MetaFrame server farm installed, it can be integrated quickly with NFuse Elite.
The product is being sold at retail for $67 per named user, including the Citrix Subscription Advantage annual plan, which provides automatic delivery of software upgrades, enhancements and maintenance releases. A typical installation of 75 users thus would cost approximately $5,000.
