VMware

Software Magazine, Dec, 1999

VMware has released software that enables PC users to concurrently run one to five protected sessions, each running its own operating system, on a single machine. VMware Virtual Platform for Windows NT/2000 provides an easy way to install, test, and run a wide variety of applications and operating systems at once. VMware installs without the need to repartition, reconfigure, or add processing power, and does not modify the host OS.

VMware for Linux supports all major variants of Linux. VMware for Windows NT and Windows 2000 supports NT and the third beta release of Windows 2000 as hosts.

Virtual machine operating systems supported by both versions include all major variants of Linux, Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 95/98, Windows 3.1 and DOS, plus FreeBSD, NetBSD, and other major BSD versions of Unix and Solaris for Intel (version 7 and later).

VMware runs on all Intel-based, x86 PCs; a Pentium processor running at 266 MHz or faster and a minimum of 96 MB of RAM is recommended.

Pricing for VMware Virtual Platform for Windows NT/2000 is $299.
