Software Magazine, Sept, 1992

VMark Software, Inc., Natie. k, Mass., has bet its business on a belief that the computing world will continue to utilize proprietary applications after moving to open systems.

VMark, rounded in 1984 to al1ow Pick-based applications to run on Unix-based systems, is promising that its unIVerse software will eventually let applications written for most proprietary platforms--such as VAX/VMS and OS/400--run under Unix, said Marketing VP Stephen Machnik.

Through June, VMark had sold about 8,000 VMark licenses and is currently selling about 600 licenses a quarter, primarily through its 150 resellers, Machnik said. VMark, which completed an initial public offering in May, posted sales of $8.4 million in the first half of 1992, up from $5.3 million in the same period last year.
