CA SET TO SHIP DATACOM, IDMS UNIX BETA VERSIONS

As Computer Associates International, Inc. nears the expected spring debut of its Unix-based systems software offerings, the company is moving quickly to position itseft as leader in what it expects be a new generation of Unix-based data center machines.

To complement the CA-UniCenter for Unix package, CA has promised to begin shipping Unix versions of its CA-Datacom and CA-IDMS DBMS packages to beta test sites early next year. Both will be based on the CA-DB engine acquired with Cullinet Software, Inc., said Alan Paller, CA's director of open systems.

Pallersaid the Unix systems management offering, shipping first on the Hewlett-Packard Co. HP-UX irmplementation, is the first CA-90s product to be built from scratch. The CA-90s architecture will help in potting the product to other implementations, he said.
