CCA regroups - Computer Corp of America - Company Operations - Brief Article

Software Magazine, May, 1997

There's a lot of movement going on at Computer Corp. of America (CCA), Framingham, Mass. -- a spin-off, management shuffle and core improvements to its Model 204 DBMS including Web enablement and Year 2000 solutions. In December, CCA spun off from Praxis International Inc. and reclaimed its name. In February, CCA named Richard Ryan as the company's president.

Ryan, former chief financial officer and executive vice president for Praxis, says his immediate goal is to stomp out growing concern among the company's 1,000-plus customers that the former Praxis/CCA had lost its focus and service commitment.

Refocusing on its high-capacity DBMS roots, CCA plans to catch what it perceives as a resurgent IBM mainframe market with improvements to its Model 204 V4.1 for IBM System 370 and 390 mainframes. Modifications include TCP/IP connectivity for client/server or Internet/intranet applications using a Web interface. CCA has also altered the 204 nucleus to handle the century change. Version 4.1 is expected to ship June 30 with a "gold" service agreement that extends support by several years, allowing customers to focus on other Year 2000 application problems.
