Instructor,  August, 2005

Who knew these celebs once stood in your shoes? Here's what they say about their former jobs.

Sting taught English. "As an entertainer, I feel as if I'm doing virtually the same job. You can't ask people to learn anything unless they're entertained first."

Gene Simmons of KISS taught sixth grade for six months at PS 75 in Harlem, where he was chastised for using a Spider-Man comic book in his lesson plan. "All the classic literature is filled with white people, so there's no emotional connection with the kids. I figured that Spider-Man is raceless because he wears a mask. Anybody can be Spider-Man."

Sheryl Crow taught music in a rural Missouri elementary school. "I had several autistic students, and I could see how they immediately reacted to music. I carry that around with me now--music really does have an amazing power."
