Helping hands
Instructor, August, 2005
To promote equal classroom contribution, Dawn M. Carroll of Orchard Park, NY, shares: I've found a great way to choose students for reading or doing classroom jobs. At the beginning of the year, I glue cut-out handprints to craft sticks and label each hand with a student's name. I place the hands in a cloth pocket that I've attached to my desk.
Whenever I need to choose students, I just pull hands from the pocket. By doing this, I save classroom time and avoid playing favorites.
