In this pleasant introduction to musical instruments and elements, children explore a pair of scenes that lead to games and short lessons. The activities vary in their depth, fun, and educational value. One of the best is Central Stage, where children can listen to and learn about instruments in an orchestra, as well as view their sound waves. Also innovative is the Acoustimatic, which lets children place sounds into different environments (such as underwater) to see how sound changes. Features include a closed-caption option that allows hearing-impaired children to use the program. Also nice are the different challenge levels that kids can adjust on their own. Be aware that unlike many Magic School Bus titles, this program has no mission or overall goal, but is more of a music-themed activity center for students. Reader Service No. 81
