Rationales for Challenged Books, CD-ROM - Teacher Raves - Evaluation
Instructor, March, 2001 by Dave O'Neil
(NCTE in partnership with IRA)
For as long as books have been in print there have been people and organizations who wanted books banned. Now there is a CD-ROM that can help teachers keep these important books on the shelves.
The purpose of this software is to educate teachers on how to facilitate challenged, controversial books into their reading programs. The easy-to-use software is filled with important content and useful teaching strategies. It is broken up into 10 major themes including targeted grade level, plot summary, theoretical support, teaching objectives, activities, and possible essay questions. In addition, this software gives insightful critical summaries of each of the books mentioned.
As a fifth-grade teacher, I saw many books that I wanted to use in my classroom. I strongly recommend this software to any person who cares deeply about literature.
