Nortel, Bell Mobility Complete 3G Trial - Nortel Networks - Company Business and Marketing - Brief Article

Telecommunications, Nov, 2000

Chalk one up for wireless data. Nortel Networks and Canada's Bell Mobility have demonstrated high-speed two-way packet data transmission using cdma2000 1XRTT technology in a live air trial. The demonstration included two-way streaming video-using both forward and reverse supplemental channels between laptop computers connected via cdma2000-enabled mobiles.

It also included real-time collaboration and videoconferencing applications. The trial used an end-to-end Nortel infrastructure solution and trial terminals powered by the QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies MSM5000 Mobile Station Modem chipset and system software. 1XRTT, the first phase of cdma2000, is designed to support 144 kbps packet data transmission and to double the voice capacity of current generation CDMA networks.
