China Netcom expands optical reach

Nortel Networks has announced a new contract with China Netcom Carp (CNC) to deliver its OPTera long haul 16000 optical line system from Shenzhen to Hong Kong. The new network will serve as an international gateway for CNC's packet-based network, and will carry IP, voice, video, and data traffic between Shenzhen and Hong Kong from early 2001.

It will be the first OPTera 1600-gigabit network in the greater China region. According to Nortel Networks, the new CNC network will be a multi-service, ultra-high capacity 1 0-gigabit DWDM solution.
