Broadband Service Node: Nortel Networks - New Products - Product Announcement

Telecommunications, Feb, 2002

Nortel Networks is taking an "out of the box" approach with the latest version of its Shasta 5000 BSN (broadband service node). By integrating SDI (service delivery interfaces), service providers can provision third-party services from a Shasta 5000 BSN without integrating them into the BSN platform.

These SDIs integrate security, service fulfillment and service management via agreements with BroadJump, Symantec, XACCT, Internet Security Systems and Micromuse. By integrating Symantec's Web security and content filtering with Shasta's firewall, content filtering elements can be customized for specific user classes via flexible policy settings and Symantec Web security rating topology. Additional SDEs can extend security intrusion detection from Internet Security Systems. Automated broadband service fulfillment is simplified through the integration of BroadJump's Control Works and Virtual Truck agent that enable subscribers to provision additional bandwidth for music downloads. An integrated accounting solutio n from XACCT synthesizes accounting data to feed billing and other OSS to grow revenue. Finally, Micromuse provides its Netcool software for network fault management and services. The product is available.
