Adtran says its new Total Access OPTI-3 product is an OC-3 SONET multiplexer that takes up less space than competing products, yet is a genuine carrier-class system compliant with SONET GR-253. With the Total Access OPTI-3, carriers can deploy a full OC-3 bandwidth of DS3s, which provide three D53 ports in a space one rack-unit high.

Adtran says the product's low cost and plug-and-play nature lets customers use it in terminal mode or DS3 extension applications. Optional redundancy features 1:1 protection of the optical and electrical components and 1 1 SONET Automatic Protection Switching. The Total Access OPTI-3 is available.
