OADM Debut - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Telecommunications, April, 2001

Larscom has entered the optical add/drop multiplexer market with its Larscom 4800 that supports SONET and SDH transport on the backbone. The mux features a self-configurable software-defined backplane that lets the device automatically update configurations as new interface modules are added. As a result, its six interface slots can support a range of interface modules from T1/E1 to OC-48/STM-16.

The mux sits 3RU high in a 19-inch rack and has a power consumption of less than 50 watts. It can be managed locally through a RS-232 connection or remotely via 10-Mbps Ethernet using telnet and/or SNMP.
