Multicell Base Station - Brief Article - Product Announcement
Telecommunications, April, 2001
While the supercell approach gave first-generation fixed wireless carriers a foot into the last-mile broadband service corridor, customer demand is driving the next-generation of fixed wireless to a multicell approach. ADC's Axity base transceiver station incorporates a multicell approach to give a MMDS provider three benefits: less expense, lower power consumption and smaller cell size.
Axity BTS can be deployed in hot spots as an underlay to a supercell or throughout a coverage area independent of a supercell for uniform capacity in a multicell architecture migration. In addition, Axity can be engineered for a variety of cell radiuses from one to 10 miles, depending on capacity needs. With support for four downstream and upstream paths, additional sectors can be added as needed. Deployed in two configurations, the outdoor unit can be configured with integrated RF equipment for a complete outdoor base station; the indoor unit is rack-mountable in a standard 19-inch cabinet. Axity is available.
