Verizon Goes Global - Company Business and Marketing

Telecommunications, April, 2001

Verizon Communications is going global by building a network linking the United States with major cities in Europe, Asia and Latin America. The network integrates active network links between New York and Toronto and between Hawaii, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney with new links launched in Q2. By 2003, it will also extend the network to major business centers in a number of European and Latin American cities.

Initial per-fiber network capacity will be 400 Gbps, upgradeable to 1.6 Tbps by the end of 2001. It will use Lucent's WaveStar, GX 550 and PacketStar equipment.
