Cash Flow - Company Financial Information - Brief Article

Telecommunications, April, 2001

Stock prices might be giving the industry a scare, but money continues to flow to at least some start-ups. A big winner was Calient Networks, which pulled in $225 million on top of the $56 million it had already received. The company's MEMS-based switch is currently in the first phase of a three-phase interoperability testing marathon with various network elements.

Xtera Communications, which makes optical equipment for the long-/ultralong haul-market, pulled in $110 million, raising total financing to $133 million. Passive optical networking vendor Terawave Communications raised $73 million, bringing its total funding to $133 million. Other beneficiaries included Laurel Networks, a start-up building a router for the optical edge. With $60 million in new cash, the company raised its total funding to $77.3 million. Seneca Networks, building optical equipment for the metro core, added $30 million to the $6.25 million it had received thus far.
