Fiberless CLEC Growth - Industry Trend or Event - Brief Article

Telecommunications, June, 2000

Facilities-based local/regional CLECs that don't own the fiber between their POPs averaged more than $13 million in revenues last year, according to Infonetics Research. The majority of these 150 Tier 3 CLECs have roots as ISPs and almost half plan to partner with another provider this year. DSL offerings are on the rise with 70 percent planning to offer the service by 2001, which explains the overall growth in network expenditures from an estimated $1.02 billion to $1.12 billion between 2000 and 2004.

There are approximately 1800 CLECs of which 250 claim to be facilities-based, the survey said.
