Autoparts Report, March 4, 2003

Delphi Corp. Energy & Chassis Systems division said that, in January, the company contracted for more than $305 million in business in the Asia Pacific region to supply diesel common rail systems and sensor components.

"We are pleased at the growth we are seeing with respect to the Asia Pacific region and are looking to continue the positive momentum," said Guy C. Hachey, vice president, Delphi Corp. and president, Delphi Energy & Chassis Systems.

The technology used in Delphi's Multec 1600 common rail system is based on solenoid injectors with balanced valve and feedback control strategies.

Delphi said it has manufactured more than one million diesel common rail systems to date, with booked business predicted to exceed more than 2.5 million systems per year by 2006.

The Asia Pacific applications include engine sensors (cam, crank and knock), Delphi said. Delphi also manufactures transmission sensors and sensors for anti-lock braking systems (wheel speed, traction control and vehicle stability).

Delphi continues to forecast solid growth in the Asia Pacific region in 2003. In 2002, Delphi said it had regional consolidated sales of $1.2 billion in the Asia Pacific region. Delphi has more than 5,000 employees in 13 facilities and 4 technical centers, in 10 countries and is also involved in 18 joint ventures throughout the region, the company added.

Delphi supports almost all major Asian OEMs as well as American and European OEMs present in the region, it said.
