Eaton Corp. said General Motors Corp. awarded it a $500 million multi- year contract to supply an advanced powertrain technology for an undisclosed future program. The Cleveland- based company said its powertrain technology improves fuel economy without sacrificing power and performance.

The company would not comment on the General Motors project. But Eaton Corp. has been focusing on fuel economy, safety and environmental impact, said Eaton Senior Vice President and Group Executive Stephen Buente.
