DaimlerChrysler To Offer Sirius Satellite Radio On New Vehicles

Autoparts Report, May 22, 2002

DaimlerChrysler said that it will offer Sirius satellite radio services in new Chrysler, Jeep , Dodge and Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in the United States. Following final service validation, Sirius is expected to be widely available beginning this fall as a dealer-installed option from Mopar through Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships in the U.S.

Chrysler Group said it expects to offer Sirius as a factory-installed option on select vehicles for the 2003 model year. Mercedes-Benz said it also expects to offer Sirius in a number of vehicle lines at its U.S. dealerships in 2003. Specific details on individual vehicle lines are expected to be announced this summer, the company said.

Jack Withrow, Director of Telematics at the Chrysler Group, commented, "We're committed to working as a team with Sirius to roll out this new technology. It will provide our customers with an exciting listening experience, because of the wide variety of programming delivered by satellite radio. We believe that satellite radio may become one of the next big 'lifestyle technologies', like cable television was in the nineties."
