Japan's Stanley Electric Co. said it will launch a joint venture in October to produce automobile lamps and other electrical goods in Guangzhou, China, with two local partners. Japanese automakers have been increasing production in China, where the automobile market is expected to expand rapidly.
The joint venture, Guangzhou Stanley Electric Co., will be capitalized at $15.6 million. The major Japanese maker of electrical equipment for automobiles will hold a 60 percent stake, while Guangzhou Automobile Group Component Co. will hold 30 percent. The remaining 10 percent will be held by Honda Motor (China) Co.

The venture will manufacture and sell such goods as front and tail lights for use in automobiles and motorcycles to be supplied to parent company Honda Motor Co.'s local unit in the region and other Japanese automakers operating into China, Stanley said.
With 165 workers, the joint venture will start production in May 2003.
