PSA, Toyota Consider Polish Sites For Joint Venture

PSA Peugeot Citroen and Japanese counterpart Toyota are studying three sites in Poland to set up their joint-factory to produce 300,000 small cars per year, according to Polish economy minister Edward Nowak. He added that Poland was in competition with the Czech Republic and Hungary.

A decision on the factory's location is expected to be made in December or January, according to PSA. The group has announced a joint-investment, with Toyota, of $1.36 billion to jointly produce and develop low cost cars starting in 2005.

Toyota is expected to start transmission production in spring 2002 in the south west of Poland.
