Delphi To Close Italian Auto Components Facility

Delphi Automotive Systems said it is closing a facility in Desio, Italy, as part of a broader restructuring plan. The facility is expected to be closed no later than the end of the first quarter, 2002, Delphi said.

"Delphi continually reviews its facilities and product portfolio. This action reflects a continuation of our worldwide facilities rationalization process to further improve our cost competitiveness," said James A. Bertrand, vice president of Delphi Automotive Systems and president of Delphi Safety & Interior Systems.

The Desio facility, which employs 96 people, produces door latches, wiring harnesses and suspension modules for the European market. Delphi said it will work with its unions in Italy to help minimize the impact on its employees.

Production of automotive components currently produced at Desio will be transferred to other Delphi locations in Europe and Asia, Delphi said.
