Robert M. Kolbas of North Carolina State University has received a $249,901 Multi-Disciplinary Research Grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center. The grant will support the rapid start-up of the Center for Intracellular Engineering, which seeks to develop a new technology base for creating electronic interfaces with living systems at the cellular level.

The university is also seeking operational funding from the National Science Foundation for the new center, but the funds from the Biotechnology Center will help quickly establish a core faculty and programs.
