Collaborations watch

BT Catalyst, Jan-Feb, 2004

Three collaborations involving North Carolina biotechnology companies were announced in October, November, and early December.

Icagen Inc., Research Triangle Park, and Abbot Laboratories, with worldwide headquarters in Abbott Park, Ill. and offices in Laurinburg and Rocky Mount, renewed their drug discovery collaboration to develop small molecule drugs that target a specific ion channel for the treatment of neuropathic and inflammatory pain.

PPD Inc., Wilmington, and Syrrx Inc., San Diego, Calif. are collaborating to develop orally-delivered DP4 inhibitors to treat diabetes and other major diseases.

SCYNEXIS Europe Ltd., located in the United Kingdom with headquarters in Research Triangle Park, and GeneCare Research Institute Co. Ltd., Kamakura, Japan, are collaborating to develop anti-inflammatory drugs.
