BT Catalyst,  Feb-March, 2003

Researchers at Kucera Pharmaceutical Co. in Winston-Salem have received two awards totaling $40,000 from the North Carolina Strategic Technology Applied Research (STAR) program to fund research on potentially innovative therapies for cancer and HIV/AIDS.

Kucera received the awards in conjunction with Wake Forest University Health Sciences (WFUHS). Louis S. Kucera, Ph.D., and Gregory L. Kucera, Ph.D., both researchers at WFUHS, are the principal investigators for the STAR awards.

In the research funded by the first STAR award, Greg Kucera will evaluate the anticancer activity of a novel cancer compound under development by Kucera, while Louis Kucera will evaluate the anti-HIV activity and safety of several novel compounds under development by Kucera.
