* Dr. E. Gary Cook has been elected a director of Trimeris Inc. (Nasdaq: TRMS) of Durham. Cook is the retired chairman, president and CEO of Witco Corp. of Greenwich, Conn.

* Santo J. Costa has been elected to the board of directors of Pilot Therapeutics Inc. of Winston-Salem. Costa is vice chairman of Quintiles Transnational Corp. of Research Triangle Park.

* Ron Saldarini, Ph.D., and Matthew Megaro have been elected to the board of directors of AlphaVax Inc. of Durham. Saldarini was president of Wyeth-Lederle Vaccines and Pediatrics of Madison, N.J., a division of American Home Products, until his retirement last year. Megaro is past president and chief financial officer of Trimeris Inc. of Durham.
