PPGx Inc. of Morrisville, a joint venture of PPD Inc. of Wilmington and Axys Pharmaceuticals Inc. of South San Francisco Calif., has secured an exclusive worldwide license from St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., to test for mutations in the thiopurine Smethyl transferase gene.

The test helps physicians identify pediatric leukemia patients with the mutation who often suffer severe reactions to some common anticancer drug treatments. The test will also allow researchers to continue evaluating the mutations of the gene in clinical research.
