Janice Benson Allen of North Carolina State University, in partnership with Blue Ridge Pharmaceuticals of Greensboro, has received a two-year, $30,000 Collaborative Funding Assistance Award from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center to study the role of TGFbeta-2 in corneal ulcers that don't heal.
The collaboration proposes that the topical application of a gel containing TGFbeta2, a factor in normal tears that is low in the tears of eyes with ulcers, will increase healing and prevent recurrence of corneal ulcers.
