Biotechnology Center provides loans totaling $314,825 to three companies

BT Catalyst,  July-August, 2004

The N.C. Biotechnology Center awarded MediWave Star Technology of Greensboro $150,000 and Affinergy of Research Triangle Park $149,825 through the Center's Small Business Research Awards program. Medi-Wave will use the loan to support a clinical study designed to validate its non-invasive technology, which allows quantitative measurement of cardiac function using data gathered with standard electrocardiogram instrumentation, for the early diagnosis of myocardial ischemia. Affinergy will use its loan to identify biopolymers that can bind tightly to the surface of medical catheters and prevent infections caused by bacterial attachment and biofilm formation.
