Artecel Sciences of Durham recently obtained U.S. Patent No. 6,391,297, which covers a key product in the company's human adult stem-cell portfolio

Artecel Sciences of Durham recently obtained U.S. Patent No. 6,391,297, which covers a key product in the company's human adult stem-cell portfolio. The new patent covers stem cells isolated from fat tissue that have been modified to exhibit at least one characteristic of an osteoblastic cell lineage.

The patent also covers genetically modified cells in combination with a matrix. The rights enhance Artecel's intellectual property to include composition of matter in bone repair.
