AlphaVax, Research Triangle Park, $4,839,367 From the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for a project titled "Development of an Alphavirus Replicon Vaccine Against SARS."

AlphaVax, Research Triangle Park, $1,843,827 From the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for a project titled "Alphavirus Replicon Vaccines against Marburg Virus."

Attagene, Chapel Hill, $2,220,010 From the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for a project titled "Identification of TLR Signaling Network."

Biomarck Pharmaceuticals, Durham, $632,540 From the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a project titled "Preclinical Development of a Therapeutic Agent for COPD."

Breathquant Medical Systems, Charlotte, $584,164 From the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a project titled "Pretest Probability Assessment for Pulmonary Embolism."

Cognosci, Research Triangle Park, $467,160 From the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for a project titled "Identification of Neuroprotective Apoe-Mimetics."

Cropsolution, Morrisville, $100,000 From the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for a project titled "Identification of New Acetyl-Coa Carboxylase Inhibitors."

Ercole Biotech, Research Triangle Park, $270,674 From the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a project titled "Antisense Treatment for Thalassemia."

Gaia Herbs, Brevard, $385,499 From the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine for a project titled "Echinacea: Standardized Product and Supply Provision."

KBI BioPharma, Durham, $500,000 From the National Science Foundation to support the development of applying centrifugal bioreactor technology to biopharmaceutical production.

LCMS Limited, Durham, $100,000 From the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for a project titled "Quantitative LC-MS Detection of Peptides in Celiac Sprue."

Mediwave Star Technology, Greensboro, $98,840 From the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a project titled "Technology to Assess the Risk of Cardiac Arrhyhtmias."
