Donald deBethizy, Ph.D., president and CEO of Targacept Inc. of Winston-Salem, has been named Ernst & Young's 2002 Carolinas' Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year. deBethizy was credited with championing the potential of neuronal nicotinic receptor research at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. in Winston-Salem and forming Targacept around the technology.
