Kucera Pharmaceuticals of Winston-Salem recently closed on $1.9 million in Series A financing, which will be used by the company for the development of phospholipid drug delivery systems.
Academy Venture Fund of Winston-Salem was the lead investor. Piedmont Angel Network of Greensboro and other private investors also contributed to the round.
Kucera -- a spin off of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill -- will use the funds to develop and test compounds expected to increase the effectiveness of existing drugs and improve their toxicity.
