BT Catalyst revamped new focus for a new era

BT Catalyst,  Sept-Oct, 2003

You hold in your hands the first issue of our revitalized newsletter, BT Catalyst. Longtime readers will recognize a new look and new content.

When BT Catalyst made its debut in November 1987 as a publication of record for North Carolina's biotechnology industry, the industry was young and small. In fact, there were many months when there was a dearth of company news to report.

Enter the 1990s and an explosion in commercial biotechnology activity. Our industry tripled in size and began making daily news with company formations, financings, expansions, collaborations and new products.

Today it's impossible for a monthly newsletter to report all of that commercial activity, much less have it be timely. Therefore, we will no longer report individual company news in BT Catalyst unless it is of great economic significance or part of a larger story important to the state's biotechnology community.

The revised publication instead will focus on broader issues and trends affecting the growth and development of the biotechnology community and will feature commentary from biotechnology leaders throughout the state. Your contributions are welcomed.
