In a separate experiment, this compound when administered intravenously reduced cortical and sub-cortical infarct volume, and improved neurological recovery in a mouse model of stroke. Assuming satisfactory completion of preclinical studies, Incara intends to initiate clinical trials with one of its catalytic antioxidants for treatment of stroke in 2001.
