Artecel Sciences of Durham has received a third Small Business Innovative Research grant of $100,000 from the National Institutes of Health

BT Catalyst, Dec, 2001

* Artecel Sciences of Durham has received a third Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) grant of $100,000 from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The grant will support efforts to determine the optimal conditions for the rapid and reproducible isolation, culture and storage of human adipose tissue-derived adult stem cells.

Research will also be pursued to document the ability of these adult stem cells to undergo adipocyte differentiation when implanted in animals. Overall, the work is contributing to the development of potential cell therapy products for soft tissue cosmesis, hematopoietic support in bone marrow transplantation, bone repair, cartilage repair and central nervous system injury repair.
