Australia's AAPT Ltd

CommunicationsWeek International, April 26, 1999

* Australia's AAPT Ltd. rejected an A$1.5 billion takeover bid by Sydney-based Cable & Wireless Optus Ltd. as inadequate and unwelcome. Analysts believe that AAPT is in talks with as many as 10 international carriers, with MCI WorldCom Inc. and Telecom Corp. of New Zealand thought to be most likely to bid.

Singapore Telecom this month sold 15% of AAPT for A$217 million, part of which Optus bought, increasing its holding in AAPT to 10.6%.
