The following stories made up some of the headlines in the 11 December 1989 edition of CWI.

* Mannesmann Mobilfunk GmbH won the coveted contract to build Germany's second digital cellular radio network--D2. At the time Mannesmann AG was a large engineering and steel group: today it is Germany's second-largest telecoms company and is the subject of a takeover bid by Vodafone.

* Infonet formed an alliance with several iservice and software providers to develop global EDI services. Today IP is replacing many proprietary technologies.

* Bruno Lasserre was appointed head of France's new regulator, the DRG--now replaced by ART and headed by Jean-Michel Hubert.
