The following stories made up some of the headlines in the 2 July 1990 edition of CWI.

* SITA, the not-for-profit organization that had been providing value-added network services to airlines since 1949, began building a commercial VANS network, in order to offer services to related industries. The new SITA subsidiary, called ITS, planned to compete on the provision of EDI, VPNs and messaging, amongst other services.

* Motorola unveiled plans for its 77-satellite Iridium system, which the company said would provide truly global digital cellular coverage by 1996.

* The first fiber optic undersea link from Hong Kong to Taiwan, 730 kilometers long, was completed. The work was carried out by STC plc.
