> A rapid increase in capacity, coinciding with the telecoms downturn, has led to a stark drop in the index for the New York-Los Angeles route. In past years, this North American route lagged behind other long-haul routes, since there were only two or three providers able to supply it end-to-end. But more recently, a number of competitors have lit their fiber along the route, leading to heavy price discounting.
