BellSouth and KPN closed their agreement to swap BellSouth's 22.51% stake in German mobile phone operator E-Plus for 9.42% of KPN, which BellSouth subsequently sold off as part of their ongoing strategy to draw back investments from Europe. The Dutch incumbent posted a net loss of [epsilon]7.495 billion for 2001, compared to a profit of [epsilon]1.874 billion the preceding year.

The loss is the biggest in Dutch corporate history.
