EDGE, On & About AT&T, Nov 2, 1998

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) Monday announced the successful conclusion of the Second Annual CDMA European Regional Congress, which was held in Berlin on October 19-22, 1998. More than 100 representatives from the European wireless industry attended the conference, which provided a comprehensive update on the status of cdmaOne wireless local loop (WLL) network deployments in Europe.

"The Second Annual CDMA European Regional Congress proved to be successful through the positive response and interest in the growing number of cdmaOne WLL deployments in Europe," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDMA Development Group. "The deployments and commercial availability of cdmaOne WLL systems in Russia, Poland and the Ukraine demonstrates that cdmaOne is the most viable technology for WLL in Europe." Additional topics of interest pertinent to the European wireless market at the CDMA European Regional Congress included: exploiting the potential of cdmaOne within your business strategy; designing & planning a cost-effective cdmaOne network; the evolution towards third generation mobile systems; CDMA high-speed data initiatives; and examining the CDMA opportunities for European operators. "The CDG looks forward to continuing its efforts in Europe and fully expects that the cdmaOne WLL momentum in eastern Europe will foster the technology's growth throughout the region," added LaForge. The CDMA Development Group (CDG) is a nonprofit trade association formed to foster the worldwide development, implementation and use of cdmaOne. The 100 member companies of the CDG include many of the world's largest wireless operators and equipment manufacturers. The primary activities of the CDG include development of cdmaOne features and services, public relations, education and seminars, regulatory affairs and international support. Currently, there are more than 500 individuals working within various CDG subcommittees on cdmaOne-related matters.
