High Capacity GSM: Nokia launches a new High Capacity GSM System - Technology to revolutionise GSM networks - Company Business and Marketing

Nokia Monday launched a revolutionary new High Capacity GSM system at the PT/ExpoComm exhibition in Beijing, China. This pioneering technology will offer more capacity, more power and more efficiency in GSM networks than previously possible. Nokia's new system will take GSM to a new level, offering a ten- fold capacity increase compared to conventional networks.

Switching capacity will be more than doubled to serve 400,000 subscribers and network investment costs will be significantly reduced. These dramatic improvements will be possible with new products comprising of a Mobile Switching Centre (MSC), Home Location Register (HLR), base station with integrated access transmission equipment, base station controller and a range of tools for training services, planning and information management. "The number of mobile subscribers is expected to reach 300 million by the end of this year and we anticipate around one billion users in 2005," says Mikko Heikkonen, President, Network Systems, Nokia Telecommunications. "Nokia's vision of voice going wireless is being realised. With the increasing demand of advanced voice and data services in GSM networks, we are addressing capacity needs for operators with this new system."
