EDGE, On & About AT&T, April 5, 1999

Alcatel and Hewlett-Packard Company Monday announced the integration of Smart Internet Usage (SIU) technology in the Alcatel call data collection application.

The new platform will enable operators to collect, in a centralized way, the data coming from both the telecom and the internet networks, allowing the use of these extracted data in various business functions including billing, marketing and capacity planning. This new feature is part of Alcatel's recently announced Alcatel 2ip ready program that will evolve Alcatel's product line to embrace IP technologies.

"To provide accurate means for IP and data network operators to charge their customers according to actual usage of infrastructure resources is a key asset in running their business. Alcatel's solution based on an extension of robust and field proven solution in ISDN Networks is of a high value at a time when telecom and data networks are quickly converging," said Laurent Philonenko, VP for Alcatel's network applications activities.

"Telecom ISPs need comprehensive solutions to understand their subscribers' Internet usage patterns and to improve and optimize their services," said Sanjay Uppal, general manager of HP's Internet Infrastructure operation.
