E-Mail: Prodigy Internet Launches E-Mail Access from Any PC; Prodigy and Mail.com Partner for a Turn-Key Solution - Prodigy Communications - Company Business and Marketing

EDGE, On & About AT&T, March 8, 1999

Prodigy Communications Corporation announced Tuesday the launch of Prodigy MailLink, a new Web-based e-mail program that allows Prodigy Internet members to access their Prodigy e-mail from any PC connected to the Web, anytime, anywhere. Prodigy has teamed with New York-based Mail.com, the Internet messaging company, which developed the online interface and technology featured in Prodigy MailLink.

The service, which is offered exclusively to Prodigy Internet members, gives subscribers the ability to check e-mail and send messages from any PC with a Web browser and an Internet connection - a school or library computer lab, a computer at the office, an airport kiosk, or a friend's house - even if the PC is not connected to the Internet through the Prodigy Internet service.

Additionally, because MailLink is Web-based and uses members' existing personal e-mail address and password, Prodigy Internet members can be assured of their privacy - even when accessing their personal mail from work.

Prodigy MailLink takes the Web mail concept one step further: It combines Prodigy's existing, standards-based POP3 e-mail service - which customers can use with all standard mail clients (e.g., Internet Explorer, Netscape, etc.) - with an online Web interface designed by Mail.com. With one quick visit to Prodigy MailLink, subscribers can easily access, store, create and manipulate their e-mail from any online PC.

"We are proud to be working with Prodigy to provide its members with this cutting-edge solution," said Lon Otremba, chief operating officer of Mail.com. "Prodigy members are the first to take advantage of our unique new Webmail service, which makes their e-mail so much more valuable and easy to use."

Prodigy MailLink does not require the user to download any software or adjust any server or personal settings on the browser. To access e-mail, members will simply go to the Prodigy MailLink URL (http://maillink.prodigy.net) and type in their Prodigy e-mail address and password. The service is full featured, offering an address book, multiple folders, and signature files.

"Prodigy MailLink is like a one-stop e-mail solution," said David Trachtenberg, president and COO of Prodigy Communications Corporation. "Now, all Prodigy Internet members have the best of both worlds: the preferred functionality of POP3 mail with the flexibility of Web-based access wherever they may be. We are pleased to team with Mail.com to offer this service." About Mail.com:
