Hunt's ketchup bottle flips for ergonomics

Food & Drug Packaging, Dec, 2002 by Christopher Barry

Ironically, ConAgra's Hunt's unit announced its Perfect Squeeze Ketchup upside down package the same day that Heinz introduced its Easy Squeeze! bottle--yet addressed the same consumer concerns with some additional design flair. The Hunt's bottle, which is supplied by Pechiney Plastic Packaging, has an edgier, more asymmetrical shape and feel to both bottle and label.

The bottle is polypropylene (PP) with a barrier layer of ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) and represents a departure from the PET used in Hunt's uptight bottles.

Like Heinz, Hunt's uses Seaquist Closure's SimpliSqueeze cap with a silicone valve for convenient and clean product dispensing while providing upside down bottle stability on the shelf.

The suggested retail price for Hunt's 28-ounce Perfect Squeeze is $1.99, compared with $1.79 for its 32-ounce non-inverted ketchup.
